The German company is preparing a restyling for its flagship, and test samples have already been captured by spy photographers several times. What will it be like?
The flagship model of Mercedes-Benz has a very solid history: executive sedans were produced back in the middle of the last century, but they received the name S-class only in 1972, along with the first generation in the W116 body. Today, the seventh generation of the car is already on the assembly line, which was presented in the fall of 2020 and received the factory index W223. The time is approaching for a planned restyling, and camouflaged prototypes have already hit the roads, periodically being caught by photo spies.

Of greatest interest is the front part, which now has the most camouflage. A noticeably larger radiator grille is already visible, which will reach almost to the very bottom of the bumper. It is likely that the same technique will be used here as in the new E-Class: the grille will be visually combined with the headlights due to a black contrasting frame. What's best visible is the new LED running light graphics, designed in the form of three-pointed stars. This solution was first demonstrated on the CLA concept presented last fall, and the updated S-Class may become the first production model with such headlights. No significant changes are expected on the side, but the only new thing at the rear may be the lights. More precisely, their graphics, which are clearly visible in spy photographs: here are the same three-pointed stars as on the new E-class, only there are three of them in each headlamp (there are two on the younger model).

There is no confirmed information about changes in the technical part yet; most likely, the restyled model will retain a wide range of power plants, including gasoline and diesel engines, as well as hybrids. The most powerful version of the S63 E Performance will not go anywhere either, with an installation consisting of a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine of the M177 series with a power of 612 hp (maximum torque — 900 Nm) and a 190 hp electric motor (320 Nm) on the rear axle. The total system power is 802 hp and the torque is 1430 Nm.
