MOSCOW, June 30 Carolina Hurricanes traded American striker Jake Guentzel to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a third-round pick in the 2025 draft, according to the official website of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Guentzel will become an unrestricted free agent on Monday and is expected to sign with Tampa Bay.
Guentzel, 29 years old, started the season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was traded to the Hurricanes on March 7. Last season, the forward scored 77 points (30+47) in 67 regular season games. He also scored 9 points (4 goals, 5 assists) in 11 Stanley Cup games for Carolina.
In total in the NHL, Guentzel, a Pittsburgh third-round draft pick in 2013, has 491 points (227 goals, 264 assists) in 520 regular-season games and 67 points (38 goals, 29 assists) in the playoffs. In 2017, he won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh.
Previously, Tampa traded Russian defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, one of the team’s highest paid hockey players, to Utah.
