The Chinese brand has completely declassified a new SUV for the home market. The model is offered with two “filling” options.
The auto giant Stellantis and the Chinese company Leapmotor announced a long-term cooperation last fall, which resulted in particular in the creation of a joint venture Leapmotor International, which is intended to sell Chinese electric vehicles outside the home market . As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the controlling stake in the joint venture – 51% – belongs to Stellantis; In addition, the concern invested 1.5 billion euros in the Leapmotor company itself.

The Leapmotor company introduced the Leap 3.0 platform in July last year, the first to receive it was the mid-size crossover Leapmotor C10, which designed for both Chinese and global markets. Now the manufacturer has presented another model on the same “trolley” – we are talking about the Leapmotor C16 SUV (in the brand hierarchy it is one step above the C10). So far, the new product has been presented for the Chinese market.

The appearance of Leapmotor C16 is made in the same style as that of its “younger brother”. This model has a traditional body with smoothed lines, horizontally elongated head optics of a relatively simple shape, and the headlights are connected to each other by a luminous strip. At the bottom of the front bumper there is a fairly large air intake. The rear lights are made in the form of a single plate that runs across the entire width of the tailgate, there is a spoiler above, and on the roof there are roof rails and a shark fin antenna. The SUV was equipped with retractable door handles, traditional exterior mirrors, a panoramic glass roof and 21-inch alloy wheels.

The overall length of the Leapmotor C16 is 4915 mm, width – 1905 mm, height – 1770 mm, and distance between axles – 2825 mm. By comparison, the C10 has a similar wheelbase but is 176mm shorter in length, 5mm shorter in width and 90mm shorter in height. The body color palette includes six options – Star Silver, Star Purple, Sky Grey, Pearl White, Black Metallic and Glazed Emerald.
The cabin is designed for six riders (layout – 2+2+2). It is decorated in a minimalist style, has leather trim, including the steering wheel, a 10.25-inch diagonal virtual instrument panel, as well as a “floating” touchscreen of the infotainment system (14.6 inches). For rear passengers, there is a separate 15.6-inch display. The list of equipment includes dual-zone climate control (three-zone in top versions), a face recognition system, wireless charging function for smartphones, etc.

The model is offered with two “filling” options. In the first case, we are talking about a hybrid installation, which includes a 95-horsepower 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, a traction battery with a capacity of 28.4 kWh, and an electric motor with a capacity of 231 hp mounted on the rear axle. (maximum torque – 320 Nm). This crossover takes 8.5 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds.” When driving only on electric power, the range of the model is 200 km, the total power reserve is 1095 km (when calculated using the CLTC cycle).
The completely “green” version has one electric motor, the output of which is 292 hp and the maximum torque is 360 Nm. The system also includes a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 67.7 kWh. From 0 to 100 km/h this Leapmotor C16 accelerates in 6.4 seconds. The power reserve on one charge is 520 km.
The prices of the new product on the Chinese market are already known. For the hybrid version they ask for at least 155,800 yuan (equivalent to approximately 1.87 million rubles), and the purchase of an all-electric model will cost at least 161,800 yuan (about 1.95 million rubles). The cost of the top-end Leapmotor C16 is 185,800 yuan (about 2.23 million rubles).
