NOVOSIBIRSK, June 28 The Siberian Ring Photon Source (SKIF), which is being built in the Koltsovo science city near Novosibirsk, will primarily be used for the purposes of defense and security of the country, he told reporters Director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics named after G.I. Budker SB RAS, where the main equipment of the complex is being created, Academician Pavel Logachev.
The first test assembly of equipment for the accelerator-storage complex of the Siberian synchrotron has begun in the test bench and test building of the future SKIF Collective Use Center. These are girders (special stands) with magnetic and vacuum equipment of the booster synchrotron. 
“Working at foreign installations absolutely excludes the use of these results for defense and security purposes. Therefore, the first, best installation in the world producing synchrotron radiation in the Russian Federation will primarily be used for these purposes. And the most powerful and complex station, the most high-tech equipment that we are already preparing and testing for these purposes, it will start working first,” Logachev said.
He noted that biologists and doctors will also be the first to join SKIF, whose task will be to ensure not only a biological safety program, but also to strengthen the health of the country’s population, develop new treatment methods, new dosage forms, new biochemical methods in medicine.
“We have every chance this year to fulfill our plans and fulfill the presidential decree on the creation of the SKIF source. All technological equipment will be manufactured by the end of this year. This means not only the accelerator complex, but also the main equipment of the experimental stations. The main burden here now falls on builders… Nowhere else in the world have such complexes been created so quickly. Moreover, this complex is at the highest global level. This is the best machine in the world,” said the academician. 
The director of the BINP SB RAS added that the research and practical results that SKIF will provide today are very much needed by the country’s economy and defense. “Our future generations need them, so that our young researchers, talented guys with bright eyes, will work on the best installation in the world, creating the best technologies in the world,” he said.
The shared use center «Siberian Ring Photon Source» — a source of synchrotron radiation (SR) of the «4+» generation and an energy of 3 GeV is being created within the framework of the national project «Science and Universities» in the science city of Koltsovo near Novosibirsk. The complex will allow us to study matter at the atomic level and obtain new fundamental knowledge in the fields of biology, chemistry, medicine and other fields of science. At the time of launch, the brightness of the SKIF synchrotron radiation will be a world record. Completion of construction, installation and commissioning work is scheduled for December 2024.
