The new product from the British brand will be a twin of the “Chinese” Roewe RX5. The presentation of the SUV will take place next week, July 11.
The British brand MG now belongs to the Chinese concern SAIC, while the production of cars is established in China. By the way, it also owns the Roewe brand, so it is not surprising that some MG models are «clones» of Roewe. The HS SUV has been produced since 2018. The company is currently in the final stages of developing the next-generation crossover.
Teaser of the new MG HS
So far, MG is keeping the appearance of the new HS a secret, however, in order to support fans of the brand, the company decided to share teasers of the future SUV. Judging by them, the model has slanted head optics, a hood with stampings, roof rails, traditional exterior mirrors and regular door handles. The rear lights are connected to each other by a luminous strip; on the top of the fifth door you can see a spoiler.
It is already known that the new product of the British brand will be a twin of the current Roewe RX5 SUV. Let us remind you that the third generation “Chinese” debuted in May 2022. Its overall length is 4655 mm, width – 1890 mm, height – 1664 mm (including roof rails), and the distance between the axles is 2765 mm. For comparison, the current MG HS has a length of 4574 mm and a wheelbase of 2720 mm.
< p>It is assumed that the new MG HS crossover will differ from its closest relative due to a different design of the radiator grille, as well as sportier air intakes integrated into the lower part of the front bumper. It is possible that headlights of the same shape will have a unique light pattern.
According to preliminary data, the next-generation MG HS lineup will include petrol, hybrid and fully electric versions. Note that the current Roewe RX5 is equipped with a 1.5-liter 15FDE petrol turbo four with a power of 188 hp. (300 Nm), which is paired with a seven-speed robot with two clutches.
In the plug-in hybrid version of the Roewe eRX5, the same engine works in tandem with an electric motor integrated between the engine and gearbox. This system also includes a lithium iron phosphate traction battery. The total output is 245 hp, and the maximum torque is 570 Nm. The “Chinese” also has a hybrid version of the D5X DMN, the installation of which includes a 150-horsepower 1.5-liter engine (235 Nm) and an electric motor with a power of 197 hp. (350 Nm).

Presentation of MG HS next generations will be held as part of the Festival speed at Goodwood on July 11th. Prices for the new product will be announced later. Note that in the UK, the current MG HS SUV costs at least 24,030 pounds sterling (equivalent to approximately 2.64 billion rubles at the current exchange rate), and for the hybrid version they are asking for at least 31,095 pounds sterling (about 3.41 million rubles).
