Sofia Samodelkina gave her first interview with Sport after changing her citizenship, in which she told why she all- finally decided to leave Russia, is friends with Alexandra Trusova and what Evgeni Plushenko teaches her.
“I restored everything that I lost!”
— Svetlana Sokolovskaya, who you trained before moving to Evgeni Plushenko, somehow exclaimed in your hearts: “Sophia, just don’t grow any more!” Were you able to fulfill this wish?
— At around 170 cm, growth seems to have stopped. There are inevitable fluctuations in weight, I try to control this process.
— How did you manage to cope with the inevitable loss of ultra-si elements? during growth and maturation?
— For some time I actually lost them. And for quite a long time. I worked on their recovery, going through falls and under-rotations. She came to Plushenko’s Angels with her current growth and regained almost everything that she had lost.
— What content do you plan to include in the competition programs for the current season?
— Ideally, I would like to perform a quadruple jump and a triple axel in the free program and a triple axel in the short program. I need to be very careful with quads, given the changes in height and weight. The first competition this season will be the Kazakhstan Championship, which will be held in mid-July. I do not plan to perform ultra-si elements there.
— Do you know your competitors in the Kazakhstan national team?
— One girl came to do an internship at «Angels of Plushenko». She is the only Kazakhstani figure skater that I know.
— Will the national championship be held in Astana or Almaty?
— In Karaganda! My mother was born in this city. She even promised to show the places of her childhood if she had free time.
— Did you encounter any problems related to obtaining Kazakh citizenship and renouncing Russian citizenship?
— Together with my mother, we consulted with knowledgeable people and did everything as we were told. The process took quite a long time, but it is now completed.
— Has the competition schedule for the current season already been drawn up?
< br>
— It will be discussed after the Kazakhstan Championship. I can say for sure that I will participate in the Denis Ten Memorial.
br>»I'm learning the anthem of Kazakhstan»
— In Russia, national figure skaters receive funding from the FFKKR and the Ministry of Sports. And in Kazakhstan?
— I can’t say anything. I'm not even on the national team yet. I think everything will become clear in July after the tournament in Karaganda.
— Is it mandatory that you spend part of your training time in Kazakhstan?
— And I can’t answer this question yet. I think that I will travel to Kazakhstan regularly during the season to show myself to the leaders of the federation and local judges.
— Tennis player Yulia Putintseva, who changed her citizenship to Kazakh, said during the tournament in St. Petersburg, that she learned the words of the national anthem in Kazakh. Have you already started learning it?
— Started. I’m not sure that I will be able to speak the Kazakh language correctly, but I will try.
— You went through the school of Liliya Biktagirova, Sergei Davydov and Svetlana Sokolovskaya at CSKA, now training at Plushenko’s Angels. What did you learn from working with each of these coaches?
— Under the guidance of Liliya Airatovna, she took her first steps in figure skating. She laid the technical foundation. I learned ultra-si elements from Sergei Dmitrievich and began to include them in competitive programs. Sokolovskaya worked a lot on the presentation of programs, on revealing images. The emphasis was on this even more than on jumping. When I came to Svetlana Vladimirovna, I just jumped, jumped and jumped. We are working on all the elements with Evgeniy Viktorovich. During training, I periodically drive up to Dmitry Sergeevich Mikhailov to work more on the presentation of programs. We try to achieve a harmonious combination of technology and components.
— In one of your old interviews, you said that as a child you wanted to become a model. Now there are no offers to appear on the podium?
— In childhood, dreams and plans change quickly. Now I have no desire to try myself in the modeling business. And even after finishing your career, there will be no time for that.
— For some time you combined figure skating and dancing in the children's group of the legendary «Todes». Do acquired dance skills help in sports?
— Of course, they help, and now I’m even improving them. In «Plyushchenko's Angels» special dance lessons are practiced, taught by Alexey Nikolaevich Zakharchenko. Under his supervision, we perform national dances, jazz, hip-hop, and break.
«I think I will be a witness at Trusova»
— In the new group you became friends with Alexandra Trusova. Is friendship possible between rivals on the ice, or are you no longer competitors?
— Even as a child, I was convinced that that figure skaters should be friends. Even when she lost to other girls, she calmly communicated with them. Sometimes things could happen on their part. When I beat someone in competitions, they stopped talking to me, and friendship did not work out. We became friends with Sasha when she took a break from her competitive career.
— Will you be a witness at her wedding?
— I think yes. Although for now Sasha and Makar are just organizing everything and haven’t decided anything yet.
— Do you set yourself any specific goals in figure skating related to titles and places?— When you trained at CSKA, you prepared your own breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Is it now possible to use the services of professionals?
— Yes, but I continue to cook for myself using the products my mother buys. I can order some fresh fruit in a cafe.
— Do you have to carefully monitor your diet, and do you consult nutritionists?
— Diet have to comply. It’s difficult for the big girls, which I’m one of, in this regard. I have never contacted nutritionists or dietitians; I consider it a useless exercise. Anyone can control their own nutrition. You just need to try to refuse to give up sweets and starchy foods! True, I don’t always succeed.
— Did you have to work with a psychologist?
— As a child, this was a kind of entertainment. I didn’t have any problems, but CSKA advised me to take classes with a psychologist. I really liked them. It was possible to take a break from thoughts related to figure skating.
