In addition, the Toyota sports car has acquired a pair of identical special versions that are intended for the Japanese and American markets.
The twin coupes Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 (in some countries simply 86) appeared back in 2012. Now the second generation models developed jointly are on the market: in November 2020, the generation was replaced by the Subaru sports car, and in April 2021, Toyota’s new two-door debuted. Now the versions of these models have been extended to the 2025 model year, the premiere took place in the home market.

During the modernization, the “regular” Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ coupes did not receive changes in appearance or interior design. However, the Japanese will be offered a new special version of the GR86 Ridge Green Limited, which is planned to be released in a limited edition — only 200 copies (and the company will raffle off the right to purchase these cars). Starting price – 3,897,000 yen (equivalent to approximately 2.17 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

The Toyota GR86 Ridge Green Limited has a body painted in a new cool shade of green, a set of 18-inch bronze wheels shod with 215/40R18 tires. The special version also features reinforced Brembo brakes with red calipers and Sachs shock absorbers (for other versions they are available for an additional fee). The interior is distinguished by two-tone sports seats with brown suede and leather inserts.

It is worth noting that for the American market Toyota has prepared an identical special version of the Hakone, which is also based on the GR86 2025 model year. The production volume of these coupes will be limited: fans of the model in the States will be offered 860 “special” copies. The price tag of Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition will be announced later.

The engine of the refreshed Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 remains the same: the models are equipped with the same 235-horsepower 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine. It is known that during the modernization of coupe versions with a manual transmission, the gas pedal was reconfigured: the manufacturer noted that its responses eventually became clearer and faster. For versions with a six-speed automatic transmission, the downshift algorithm has been reconfigured. The Subaru coupe with manual transmission now has a Sport driving mode.

Previously, reports about the next generation GR86 have appeared in the media more than once. According to rumors, such a new product will no longer be a twin of the Subaru BRZ. It is possible that it will be based on a shortened version of the Lexus IS platform, and the coupe’s engine may be borrowed from the “charged” GR Yaris hatchback.
