New Chery Tiggo 8L enters the market: rich configurations and all-wheel drive

The three-row crossover is equipped with a 2.0 petrol turbo engine and a classic automatic transmission. At the moment, four versions are available for order.

Chery declassified the design of the Tiggo 8L crossover in June of this year. Now in China they have revealed the list of configurations and announced preliminary prices. Local dealers are already accepting orders, and the start of “live” sales in the brand’s homeland is scheduled for August. Let us remind you that Chery Tiggo 8 is a separate family. Moreover, the new Elka did not replace any of the current G8s — it complemented the range. In addition, the Tiggo 8L is a truly new SUV, while other SUVs are essentially variations of the same model.

The exterior features of the new product are a giant radiator grille with shiny splashes, narrow headlights with integrated diode “touches” of running lights, retractable door handles and a single taillight plate. The length of Chery Tiggo 8L is 4795 mm, width – 1930 mm, height – 1729 mm (with roof rails – 1741 mm), wheelbase – 2770 mm. Thus, in all respects, with the exception of height, the new crossover surpassed other “eights”. For comparison, the dimensions of the Tiggo 8 Pro for China (an SUV with this appearance is not sold in Russia): 4745/1860/1745 mm, the distance between the axles is 2710 mm.

Inside, there are separate screens for the instrument panel and multimedia system (10.25 and 15.6 inches, respectively). The model also received a truncated steering wheel and a two-story central tunnel, and the seat settings were moved to the doors. Instead of the usual gearbox selector, a steering column lever was installed. The basic Chery Tiggo 8L is a five-seater, the “medium” trim levels can be seven-seater, the top version has only three rows of seats.

The SUV is offered with a 2.0 TGDI petrol turbo-four with a power of 254 hp. (390 Nm), which is paired with a classic eight-speed automatic transmission. There are currently four trim levels available for order, and only one of them has all-wheel drive. The remaining versions are front-wheel drive. 

The list of equipment for the basic Tiggo 8L includes: 19-inch wheels, LED optics, an electric tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, a box armrest with heating and cooling functions, climate control, all-round cameras and cruise control. Starting from the second oldest version, 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise, auto-braking and lane-keeping systems appear.

It is curious that it is the next, third version that is the most luxurious — the more expensive all-wheel drive Tiggo 8L does not have such goodness. These include front seats with a massage function and speakers built into the headrests, a head-up display, a separate climate control for second-row passengers, a facial recognition system, blind spot monitoring systems and rear cross-collision warning systems.

For the front-wheel drive Chery Tiggo 8L they are now asking 147,700 — 167,700 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 1,780,000 — 2,021,000 rubles at the current exchange rate. The all-wheel drive crossover will cost 179,900 yuan (about 2,168,000 rubles). That is, Chery Tiggo 8L has become the new flagship of the family. Previously, this title belonged to the above-mentioned Tiggo 8 Pro (126,900 — 163,900 yuan or 1,530,000 — 1,976,000 rubles). However, when “live” sales start, the actual prices of the Elka will most likely be slightly lower. Subsequently, the new SUV will probably reach other markets.

Meanwhile, in China, the Chery Tiggo 8L still has a hybrid version, but such a crossover is considered a separate model with the T9 index: it belongs to the electrified Fulwin series .
