Over the course of a year, the joint project of the Russian Post and the Second Wind charity foundation managed to collect 25 tons of things that will get a second life. The project started in Moscow at the end of July 2023, and has now been extended for another 12 months.
Special boxes for collecting items are located in ten post offices of the capital. You can leave clothes and shoes, home textiles, leather goods and soft toys in them.
The items can be new or used, but they must be clean and packed in bags. The foundation will give some of the collected items to people in difficult life situations — these are low-income and large families, pensioners, people with disabilities, homeless people, women in crisis centers, and internally displaced persons. In 2023, the foundation cooperated with 136 social organizations in 24 regions of Russia.
Worn-out clothes will be sent for recycling. Some items will be donated to the Vtoroe Dykhanie charity stores — this will help finance the foundation's programs.
“Russian Post pays great attention to the social and environmental agenda. The project with the Second Wind Foundation responds to several requests from society at once: helping those in need and contributing to the environment through recycling. Thanks to the efforts of the Post, the service for accepting unnecessary items is becoming more and more popular among our clients, and doing good deeds has become very simple — just visit the post office,” emphasized the director of the external communications block of the Russian Post Ekaterina Kumanina .
“I believe that just as a person should not wonder where he can find a school uniform for his child or what to wear to an interview, a person should not look for ways to donate things that he no longer needs to charity. The Foundation tries to meet the needs of two sides at the same time: people in difficult life situations and people who are ready to help. But a convenient and accessible infrastructure for collecting unwanted clothing is impossible without the inclusion of business. Therefore, we are grateful to Russian Post not only for cooperation, but also for the desire to make people’s lives easier. Over the course of a year, people handed over more than 25 tons of items to ten branches of the Russian Post. And in the same year, 2023, we helped 138 thousand people who needed it with clothes. The support of the fund from the Russian Post shows that making charity more accessible is possible. Moreover, there is a demand for this among citizens,” says the director of the Second Wind charitable foundation for helping people in difficult life situations Daria Alekseeva.
