The Aion electric vehicle brand of the Chinese state-owned automaker GAC has launched the second generation compact electric crossover Aion V on the home market. After some time, the “second” Aion V will be exported and may appear in Russia.
Launched in 2018, the Aion brand has become one of the leaders in China's fast-growing electric vehicle market, but its sales have plummeted since last fall, partly due to a global slowdown in demand for electric vehicles, partly due to a furious price war between Chinese electric car manufacturers. Aion is trying to compensate for its weakening position in China by entering foreign markets: in September last year, the brand launched in Thailand with the right-hand drive Aion Y Plus crossover and is building a plant here. The second generation Aion V crossover was initially developed with an eye to the global market. The Russian representative office of GAC recently registered the Aion brand, so there are chances that its models will appear in our country.
Aion V Plus first generation
The first generation Aion V was made in a cross-van format (has an almost single-volume profile) and entered the domestic market in 2020; already in 2021 it had an upgraded version of the Aion V Plus, which remains in production. It is curious that the Mitsubishi Airtrek crossover was made for the Chinese market based on the Aion V, but it did not achieve success; last fall, Mitsubishi Motors decided to leave the Chinese market.

GAC wanted to make the “second” Aion V as affordable as possible, but at the same time stylish and practical: it is based on the modular AEP platform with a 400-volt electrical architecture and a lithium iron phosphate battery. A single electric motor is located at the front and rotates the front wheels. The front suspension is McPherson type, the rear is semi-independent with a transverse torsion beam.

The multimedia screen for all versions is the same — 14.6 inches. Trunk volume — 427 l.
