Mercedes-Benz S-Class is getting ready for an update: the flagship sedan drove on camera

Photo spies managed to take a look at the interior of the future new product of the German brand, although it is still very carefully camouflaged.

Mercedes-Benz began developing the seventh generation S-Class back in 2015, while its official presentation took place much later — in early September 2020. According to Jato Dynamics, at the end of last year, dealers of the German brand managed to sell 9901 units on the European market, which is 6% less than in 2022. At the same time, in the first five months of the current year the result fell by 32% to 3240 units.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz is working on a planned update of the flagship sedan, which should take place in the middle of the model’s life cycle. So far, the manufacturer continues a series of summer tests of the refreshed S-Class: photo spies caught a prototype of the new product on public roads in the southern part of Europe. Colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es shared the pictures with us.

Changes in appearance that will receive an updated sedan, for now hidden behind a camouflage film. By the way, earlier the designer of Kolesa.ru had already suggested what the exterior of the future flagship would be like. The model is expected to have a larger grille, as well as a differently designed lower part of the front bumper with different air intakes.

It is also obvious that during the update the four-door will have different head optics with new graphics of LED running lights — in the form of the signature three-pointed stars. Let us remind you that a similar solution was first demonstrated on the Mercedes CLA Class concept, which was presented in the fall of 2023. The stern of the refreshed Mercedes-Benz S-Class will most likely be decorated with lights with a modified light pattern.

This time, spy photographers found a parked prototype being tested, so they were able to take a look inside as well. However, for now, the interior of the updated sedan has been rather carefully hidden with the help of thick fabric camouflage. It hid the steering wheel, the front panel, including the virtual instrument panel and the touchscreen of the proprietary infotainment system, as well as the center console. It is expected that the models will retain a huge single digital panel that combines three displays (one of them is a screen for the front passenger).

Previously it became known that , that Mercedes-Benz is going to spend more than originally planned on the development of internal combustion engines, as well as on the restyling of the S-Class. The fact is that the demand for electric vehicles turned out to be lower than manufacturers expected and now many of them have to return financing for internal combustion engine projects to their strategies. It is expected that petrol and diesel engines will remain in the engine range of the updated flagship; in addition, the model will also have versions with PHEV units.

According to the publication, the refreshed Mercedes-Benz S-Class will presented in spring 2025. In this case, the first cars may reach dealers on the European market in the second half of the same year.
