Solar Group experts analyzed 70 information security incidents identified during the piloting of the Solar Dozor DLP system in large and medium-sized businesses in the first half of 2024. The analysis showed that more than two-thirds of all cases of violation of information security policies are due to the fault of women, but they act in the interests of the employer, wanting to optimize work processes, while men violate for selfish reasons.
During the piloting of Solar Dozor, the experts of the Solar Group of Companies have been helping new clients analyze the flow of data between users of organizations and outside for several months. Thus, the analysis showed that women violate significantly more often: in 71% of cases, violations of information security policies occurred due to the fault of women and only in 29% due to the fault of men.
Why women violate:
- 24% of the total number of violations are cases of women sending work documents to themselves in personal messengers and by email in order to work from home, since they do not have time to solve all the tasks during the working day.
- 20% are cases of circumvention of regulations in order to solve a problem faster. For example, in one case, an employee uploaded confidential documentation to a personal file sharing service without a password in order to quickly coordinate it with external counterparties.
- 16% of violations occur due to inattention or negligence. For example, women sent scanned documents on interaction with counterparties in unencrypted form, although this is prohibited by the company's information security policies.
- 7% of women violated labor discipline by solving personal issues during working hours.
- Another 4% of incidents were related to parallel employment or, more simply, part-time work, when employees performed tasks for third-party organizations during working hours.
Men are more careful in following the rules, and the violations described above were not found among the analyzed incidents, with the exception of cases of negligence: 6% of the total number of cases occurred due to the carelessness of men. In particular, employees followed phishing links from corporate email. However, experts from Solar Group noted that, unlike “women’s” violations, malicious intent prevails in men’s actions: the share of such incidents was 23% of the total. They were associated with the theft of client and partner databases of companies, as well as other confidential documentation.
The findings of Solar experts confirm the data of the Ministry of Labor, according to which women in Russia really work more, while earning less than men. Russian women strive for full employment and professional growth, combining a career with family responsibilities and childcare. They also take on a significant share of household chores, which remain unpaid. Data from the International Labor Organization show that women spend 3.5 times more time on this than men: on average, each woman spends 4 hours 25 minutes a day on household chores, while each man spends only 1 hour 23 minutes.
