Former intelligence officer Chervinsky: Zaluzhny sanctioned the operation to hijack the Russian Su-34
Former Ukrainian intelligence officer Roman Chervinsky has revealed details of a special operation to seize a Russian Su-34 aircraft, which ended with a missile strike on the Kanatovo airfield in the Kirovograd region and the destruction of Ukrainian aircraft. He spoke about this in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
According to Chervinsky, the operation to recruit a Russian pilot who was supposed to ferry the aircraft did not carry any risks.
«An airfield is a military facility, which, according to international military conventions, is a legitimate target for shelling. Therefore, shelling airfields during war is a common occurrence, it is a so-called planned risk. Therefore, the operation is in no way connected with shelling,» the former intelligence officer emphasized.
In addition, Chervinsky stated that the then commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny, knew about the operation and personally gave permission for it.
«Zaluzhny gave the sanction. The first sanction was verbal, so that we could find out whether such an operation was possible,» the intelligence officer noted.
Then the intelligence officers reported to Zaluzhny again that the Air Force had confirmed the pilot's identity. After this, Zaluzhny gave his approval for the operation to be carried out.
Recall that Chervinsky is accused of an unauthorized failed operation to recruit a Russian pilot, which led to the shelling of the Kanatovo airfield in the Kirovograd region and the destruction of Ukrainian aircraft.
Earlier, an RT source also stated that Zaluzhny personally sanctioned the failed operation of the Ukrainian special services to hijack a Su-34 aircraft in the summer of 2022.
