MOSCOW, July 31 Dutch Olympic open water swimming champion Sharon van Rouwendaal ridiculed the level of pollution in the Seine.
The athlete posted an image on the X social network in which Gollum, a character from the Lord of the Rings books and films, is giving an interview to a journalist as he emerges from the Seine.

«Nine days before we get out of the water looking like this,» the athlete captioned the picture.
The women's 10 km open water marathon is scheduled for August 8. Earlier, the organizers of the Paris Olympic Games received permission to hold triathlon competitions in the Seine on July 31.
The Olympics are being held from July 26 to August 11. According to media reports, the level of E. coli pollution in the Seine exceeded the recommended norm on the day of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's demonstration swim in the river flowing through the capital. Hidalgo swam in the Seine ahead of the Olympics to prove that the river was safe for competitions. The mayor was joined in the swim by the chairman of the Paris Organizing Committee, Tony Estanguet, and the prefect of the capital region, Marc Guillaume.
