The Italian company Pagani has unveiled the open Roadster version of its mid-engine supercar Utopia and immediately announced its price — from 3.1 million euros excluding taxes.
The Utopia coupe debuted in 2022 — this is the third completely new model in the entire history of Pagani (the first two are the Zonda and Huayra). The design of the Utopia is inspired by the iconic cars and motorcycles of the 50s and 60s of the last century, and therefore seems a little old-fashioned. The Utopia coupe and roadster were developed simultaneously and have very few differences in appearance, and their dry weight is completely identical — 1280 kg. The body is based on a carbon-titanium monocoque, to which chrome-molybdenum frames are bolted at the front and rear, to which the powertrain and suspension are attached. The entire outer skin is made of carbon fiber. The rear end is fitted with a spoiler with no protruding elements but with two movable sections to adjust the angle of attack.

The name Roadster should not be taken too strictly, in the supercar segment it is interpreted quite broadly. In fact, the Utopia Roadster is, of course, a targa with a massive carbon fiber arc behind the cabin. The Roadster version is provided with two removable roofs at once — a hard carbon fiber one, which when dismantled is proposed to be stored as a sculpture in the garage or living room, and a portable fabric one, stored in the cabin in a special suitcase behind the seats. For luggage, there are two handcrafted suitcases made of leather and carbon fiber — they are stored in the sides of the body behind the doors.

The jeweled interior looks especially chic in natural sunlight: analog aesthetics with elements of steampunk style are now in great demand among wealthy car enthusiasts who are tired of the abundance of electronics and touch screens in the interiors of modern cars. The Utopia Roadster does not have a single sensor, and the only small screen is integrated into the instrument panel between the speedometer and tachometer dials — this screen is necessary for fine-tuning various car systems and performs multimedia functions. The steering wheel is machined from a single 43-kilogram piece of metal, which ultimately leaves an openwork part weighing 1.6 kg, while part of the rim and the hub are covered with leather for a more pleasant tactile contact. The car key is made in the form of a scale model of it and is stored in a special tray on the central tunnel.

The technical stuffing of the «roadster» is the same as that of the coupe: a hand-assembled 6.0-liter biturbo engine is supplied by Mercedes-AMG, its maximum output is 864 hp at 6000 rpm and 1100 Nm at 2800-5900 rpm. All power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 7-speed manual Xtrac gearbox and a limited-slip differential. At the customer's request, Pagani is ready to equip the Utopia Roadster with a robotic version of the same gearbox, in which case the steering wheel will be supplemented with manual gear shift buttons.

The suspension is spring, on double wishbones «in a circle» with adaptive shock absorbers, forged levers are made of aluminum alloy. Carbon-ceramic brakes are supplied by Brembo, the diameter of the front discs is 410 mm (6-piston calipers), the rear — 390 mm (4-piston calipers). The tyres are 265/35 R 21 at the front and 325/30 R 22 at the rear, supplied by Pirelli, the compound is specially optimised for this model, and summer and winter sets are available.

Pagani said it would only build 130 units of the Utopia Roadster, priced from €3.1 million, compared to 99 units for the coupe, priced from €2.15 million. The Utopia Roadster will make its first live appearance in August during Monterey Car Week in California. The model pictured here features the Sport Pack extended carbon fiber trim and different wheel designs on the left and right sides, so that potential customers can see which design they prefer.
