MOSCOW, August 1 The head of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev said that he was ashamed of the treatment of boxers at the Olympic Games in Paris due to the fact that two athletes who had previously failed the gender test were allowed to compete in the women's competition.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the participation of Iman Khelif (Algeria) and Lin Yuting (Taiwan) in the women's Olympic tournament, despite the fact that at the 2023 World Championships in India they were unable to pass the gender test, which showed the presence of XY chromosomes and elevated testosterone in their bodies. Both athletes competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Khelif defeated Italy's Angela Carini in the 1/8 finals in the 66 kg weight class on Thursday, her opponent surrendered after 46 minutes of the fight.
«Irish boxer Kelly Harrington refused to fight at the Olympics against boxers who are biological men. Angela Carini from Italy left the ring because her opponent, who did not pass gender verification tests, simply beat the girl. I am ashamed of such treatment of our boxers. Girls, know that the IBA supports you! For us, you are winners. We are also launching a petition and continuing the investigation into Thomas Bach so that every reasonable person can influence the resignation of this corrupt mafia in the person of Thomas Bach and his entourage. We call on all athletes and coaches not to remain silent, together we can achieve justice,» Kremlev wrote on his Telegram channel.
The boxing tournament at the Paris Olympics is being held directly by the IOC due to the suspension of the IBA, which is headed by Russian Kremlev.
