MOSCOW, August 3 People's Artist of Russia, jazz musician Igor Butman believes that musicians, especially those in the jazz genre, should unite into a brotherhood, despite all the difficulties of the world situation.
“It seems to me that musicians, and especially in jazz, should have some kind of brotherhood. Every such ‘obstruction’ of musicians in terms of whether he played there or not is very difficult for the very understanding of jazz as the music of the world… Where there is brotherhood, there is an understanding that this is important, that it has nothing to do with nationalities and conflicts,” he said, answering a question about how changes in the world have affected the cultural sphere in the last two years.
Butman emphasized that there is a difficult situation with foreign musicians at the moment. Many of them come to Russia, after which their concerts in other countries begin to be cancelled. «This does not apply to all countries, but our Polish colleagues, the Baltic and Baltic countries are behaving simply indecently,» he added.
According to the artist, musicians are hindered by people who either do not know how to play themselves, or who are simply offended by life. «These people do not help the world, do not help in finding compromises or solving any issues. They poison the lives of our colleagues — and not everyone can cope with such pressure. I am disappointed in such a policy,» he noted.
