MOSCOW, August 3. The head of Vladimir Zelensky's office, Andriy Yermak, called on his Telegram channel not to allow Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko to perform in the West.
This is how he responded to the news that Netrebko is allegedly going to take part in the production of the opera «Tosca» at stage of the Rome Opera.
«Netrebko should not perform in Europe. The only place for her and people like her is the opera in Moscow,» he wrote.
According to Yermak, Russians should not have the opportunity to «bring Russian culture» to Europe and the West.
At the end of July, it also became known that Anna Netrebko would perform in the United States for the first time since 2019. According to the organizers, the concert in Florida at the Palm Beach Opera is scheduled for February 3, 2025.
In 2022, the management of the New York Metropolitan Opera announced that Netrebko would not participate in upcoming productions, as she had failed to comply with a requirement to renounce public support for the Russian government in the wake of events in Ukraine. Following the Metropolitan Opera, the Bavarian State Opera severed ties with Netrebko. After that, Netrebko's representative announced that the singer had decided to take a break from concert activities. Later, Netrebko announced on social media that she would resume performing first in Europe.
In 2023, Netrebko returned to the stage — in September 2023, she performed at the Berlin Opera, in December — with Giuseppe Verdi's opera Don Carlos, she opened the season of the Milan Teatro alla Scala, her performances took place on the leading stages of European capitals.
