MOSCOW, August 8 South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik, in a comment to Reuters, claims that the DPRK authorities have launched a fight against the music of the South Korean pop group BTS because of the alleged mass imitation of its dances by the country's youth.
«I understand that North Korea is trying hard to suppress the popularity of BTS, since (North Korean — ed.) youth were hooked on imitating their dances,» Shin said.
Also, according to the minister, the broadcasting of the band's music through loudspeakers on the inter-Korean border has become an effective form of psychological warfare, has long-term impact and can become a catalyst for change in North Korean society.
In July, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it was returning to full-scale propaganda broadcasts over loudspeakers on the inter-Korean border in response to North Korea launching garbage balloons. The propaganda broadcasts typically include news and messages urging North Korean soldiers to defect to South Korea, as well as K-pop songs, including BTS's hit singles «Dynamite» and «Butter.»
