MOSCOW, August 10 Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said on the occasion of the celebration of Physical Culture Day that personal example in the Year of the Family will help instill in children a love of sports and physical education.
Physical Culture Day in Russia is held on the second Saturday of August. The program of regional events includes relay races, chess tournaments, family orienteering, and thematic photo exhibitions and competitions with works dedicated to family sports traditions. As part of Physical Culture Day, you can pass the GTO standards and play various games, including gorodki, table tennis, tug-of-war, streetball, and others.
«2024 has been declared the Year of the Family in our country. It is through personal example that we can instill in our children a love of sports and physical education. The government pays special attention to the development of sports infrastructure to involve more Russians in regular sports. On the instructions of the president, by 2030 at least 70% of our citizens should systematically engage in sports. Of particular importance is the GTO complex, revived at the initiative of the head of state. Over 10 years, 23.5 million people have joined the movement. It is noted that the provision of Russian regions with sports facilities has increased from 61% to 64.5% over two years. There are more than 2.6 thousand GTO testing centers in the subjects of Russia — in 2023, about 150 thousand physical education and sports events with the implementation of GTO standards were held in 89 regions. Within the framework of the federal project «Sport is the Norm of Life» of the national project «Demography», 300 sites were equipped for independent preparation for passing the GTO.
«The level of involvement in physical education and sports is increasing every year. Currently, over 430 thousand people work in the industry. The professions of coach and instructor are among the most in-demand and promising. According to the results of 2023, there will be 75 million Russians regularly involved in physical education and sports. More than five million people last year chose sports as the norm of their lives. Football, swimming and volleyball became some of the most popular types of activity. The events will be dedicated to the Year of the Family, which was declared by Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. In the current difficult times, it is very important to maintain fortitude and continuity of generations.
