Russian scientists are preparing to present a revolutionary development – a therapeutic LED device for disinfecting complex wounds – at the upcoming army forum. The device, created at NRNU MEPhI, destroys even the most antibiotic-resistant microorganisms using red light.

The secret of the device is in the combination of light radiation in the 665 nanometer range and a special photosensitizer drug that increases tissue sensitivity to light.
Before the session, the photosensitizer is introduced into the irradiated wound. As a result of interaction with the light beam, various forms of active oxygen are formed in the wound, which destroy pathogenic microflora. Since bacteria do not develop resistance to this mechanism, the technology can destroy even antibiotic-resistant microorganisms.
The device is equipped with a digital video control module, which is necessary to determine the duration of the irradiation session for each patient. The device can be used both in the field and in hospitals.
