It is expected that the «charged» crossover of the German brand may appear on the market in the second half of next year, and the version with the Maybach addition — in the first half of 2026.
The large Mercedes-Benz crossover appeared in 2006, initially it went on sale under the letter index GL. And in 2015, as part of the restyling of the second generation model, the name was changed to GLS. The third generation SUV was presented in the spring of 2019, and the first restyling was expected in the spring of 2023. Now the entire model line is preparing for the next update, including versions prepared by Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach.

Prototypes of both new models – the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic+ and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS – have been spotted testing: spy photographers have caught them on public roads located in the southern part of Europe. Photos of both models were shared with us by colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es.

Judging by the photo of the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic+, during the update, the «charged» crossover will receive only cosmetic changes in appearance. Thus, in the pictures, the prototype was covered only in the area where the head optics are located, as well as a place on the edge of the hood where the brand's logo is located. By the way, instead of the main logo on the radiator grille with vertical bars, there is a round plug. Apparently, as part of the facelift, the model may slightly adjust the shape and light pattern of the headlights. It is assumed that the models will revise the interior, but specific changes will be known later.
It is expected that the «hot» SUV will retain the same «filling», which can be slightly modernized to reduce emissions. In this case, it will be equipped with a 4.0-liter gasoline biturbo V8 engine, the output of which will still exceed 600 hp. It will probably work as part of an MHEV installation in tandem with a 48-volt «electric suspension». The refreshed Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 will, of course, retain the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.

Photo spies also caught a couple of prototypes of the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS. It is possible that the refreshed luxury version of the German brand's crossover will receive more external changes: a camouflage film hides the design details of the entire front end; the rear bumper also probably hides some adjustments that await the stern. The interior of the new product is waiting for its own portion of changes, according to the publication, the diagonal of the surface for displaying information on the front panel will be almost 30 inches, it will be divided between several displays.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS engine lineup will probably also be revised during the update. An «optimization» of the range of gasoline, diesel engines, and plug-in hybrid systems is expected. Presumably, during the modernization, the latest versions will have an increased range when driving only on electric traction, an increase in total power and a decrease in fuel consumption.
According to preliminary data, the refreshed «charged» crossover of the German brand may appear on the European market in the second half of next year, and the luxury version from Maybach will reach dealers in the first half of 2026.
