The G-Energy motor oil brand has become an official partner of the Russian Drift Series (RDS GP) stage and a technical partner of its two-time vice-champion Nikita Shikov. Cooperation with the top pilot includes the use of G-Energy oils on his equipment, as well as a study of their properties under maximum loads during competition and training races. The test results are planned to be used in the further development of motor oil formulations.
In the drift world, Nikita Shikov is widely known for his performances for the Carville Racing team in a Toyota Supra A90 nicknamed «Groza». Under the hood of «Groza» is the iconic 2JZ-GTE engine with an increased volume of 3.4 liters, capable of producing 1013 hp at a cutoff of 7900 rpm and spinning the wheels to a speed of 280-300 km/h. For comparison, during normal city driving, the engine of a road car rarely operates at a mark above 4000 rpm.
In order to cope with the extreme operating conditions during drift duels, the engine needs high-quality motor oil. The loads on the power unit in such competitions last less than a minute, but are more intense than in circuit racing or rally racing. In addition, unlike racing, where cars move in a straight line and are cooled by the oncoming air flow, in drifting they move sideways and do not receive sufficient airflow, which is why the engine heats up to an average of 130 ° C. At such extreme temperatures, it is critical that the oil maintains its viscosity and protective properties.
In partnership with G-Energy, Nikita Shikov used G-Energy Racing 10W-60 engine oil at the fifth stage of the RDS GP – a product based on polyalphaolefins (PAO) and esters, developed for racing cars and sports driving. G-Energy Racing 10W-60 has a high viscosity, which does not fall at elevated temperatures, and its additives burn more slowly during operation, allowing the oil to retain its qualities longer.
For three days, Shikov squeezed everything out of the engine to give the spectator beautiful and smoky races. At this time, in the racing box of his team, the mobile G-Energy laboratory analyzed samples of the working oil, including checking the kinematic viscosity, alkaline number, degree of contamination and other parameters. The results of the study showed that the key indicators of G-Energy Racing 10W-60 used in the pilot's car remained normal. The peculiarity of the engine operation in drift mode is frequent revving and the ingress of unburned fuel into the oil, which leads to a decrease in kinematic viscosity. According to the test results, the main indicator of oil viscosity at 100 ° C remains in the SAE 60 class, does not go beyond the lower limit of 21.9 cSt, which ensures optimal pressure in the lubrication system and protection against wear. Therefore, the team was calm about the condition of the Groza engine throughout the race weekend.
G-Energy motor oil does an excellent job of protecting and cooling the engine in racing mode and ensures engine performance. The resource of one oil fill is enough for more than 60 races — this is a lot, an excellent result! Nikita Shikov G-Energy Racing 10W-60 was created for professional racers
Special components in the motor oil provide engine protection at extremely high operating temperatures:
- Polyalphaolefins (PAO base) — responsible for high thermal-oxidative stability and low volatility.
- Organic molybdenum — reduces friction and creates a protective layer on engine parts at high loads and high temperatures.
- Esters — due to their special molecular structure, they are attracted to metal surfaces, reduce the coefficient of friction, helping the engine to produce more power.
G-Energy improves the product, which guarantees uninterrupted operation of the power unit in the most extreme conditions. The correct choice of oil is one of the most important factors for engine protection.
