MOSCOW, August 13 Luton footballer Tom Lockyer, who suffered a cardiac arrest during the 17th round match of the English Championship against Bournemouth, has returned to training, the club's website reported.
The incident occurred on December 16, 2023. In the 59th minute of the match between Bournemouth and Luton, with the score 1:1, Lockyer fell on the field unconscious, after which the match was stopped. Subsequently, the referee decided not to resume the game. It was later announced that the match would be replayed in full.
Lockyer lost consciousness on the field for the second time this year. He previously collapsed during the Premier League final play-off against Coventry in May. He was hospitalised and underwent heart surgery, receiving an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The defender was cleared to resume his football career in June.
Lockyer has been under the care of leading consultants in London and Amsterdam, where he is undergoing the final stages of his rehabilitation. The defender will work on his own for the foreseeable future.
Luton were relegated to the second tier of the English Premier League (EPL) last season.
