MOSCOW, August 8Russian scientists from the Kazan State Agrarian University have found a way to increase wheat yields by a quarter — the new technology consists of a two-stage approach to processing spring wheat seed crops, the university's press service reported.
«Kazan State Agrarian University has developed a technology for producing wheat seeds that increases yields by 24%. … The essence of the new technology consists of a two-stage approach to processing spring wheat seed crops,» the press service reported.
This technology allows you to dry out plants and protect them from diseases. Scientists suggest treating wheat with the biological preparation «Pseudobacterin-2» twice: when the ear begins to form and two weeks before harvesting. In the second stage, «Pseudobacterin-2» is mixed with a glyphosate-containing preparation, which helps to accelerate seed maturation and facilitates harvesting.
«Field experiments were conducted on the experimental fields of the Kazan State Agrarian University in the farm of the Igenche Agricultural Firm LLC in the Arsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan. The object of the study was the Yoldyz variety of spring wheat. … The results of the study showed a significant improvement in seed quality and an increase in yield. «When using the developed technology, it was possible to completely get rid of seed infection with the dangerous disease «black embryo», while in the control version without treatment, the infection rate reached 24.3%,» the university noted.
As noted by the head of the study, head of the department of general agriculture, plant protection and selection of Kazan State Agrarian University Radik Safin, the developed technology solves a number of problems in seed production of spring wheat — first of all, it improves the quality of seeds.
«Our method effectively protects plants from diseases, the source of which are seeds. This is especially important, since the damage from infectious diseases can be significant not only in the current season, but also in subsequent years. Finally, the combination of a biopreparation and desiccation allows us to achieve these results without excessive use of chemical plant protection products, which makes the technology more environmentally friendly and cost-effective,» he added.
It is noted that this technology does not require expensive preparations and can be implemented using equipment already available on farms.
