MOSCOW, August 16 Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein (United Russia) proposes in his Telegram channel to disable monetization on Russian streaming services for foreign agents.
«I expect that my colleagues and I will definitely address this issue during the autumn session of the State Duma. Indeed, it seems absurd when money received in Russia is then spent on fighting our country and supporting Ukraine (as in the case of foreign agents: Noize MC, Monetochka, the leaders of «BI-2», «Nogu Svelo» and others),» he said.
Khinshtein emphasized that this is not about banning the work of foreign agents and introducing censorship against them, but rather about disabling monetization on Russian streaming platforms. In this case, neither listeners nor copyright holders will suffer.
«If the work is not recognized as extremist and is not included in the registers of prohibited ones, it can continue to be broadcast/downloaded. However, the performer-foreign agent will no longer receive royalties for it,» the parliamentarian added.
