MOSCOW, August 18 Seismic events in the Kamchatka region did not affect the operation of Russian air transport, a representative of the Federal Air Transport Agency said.
The Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported yesterday an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 that occurred off the coast of Kamchatka, 118 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Aftershocks after the earthquake in Kamchatka will continue for a long time; in the coming days, tremors of up to five points are expected in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, reported Danila Chebrov, director of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences. 
«The seismic events in the Kamchatka region, in particular the magnitude 7 earthquake that occurred on Saturday, August 17, at 22:10 Moscow time, did not affect the operation of Russian air transport — it continues to operate normally, civil aviation flights are carried out according to schedule, and the facilities of the Unified Air Traffic Management System were not damaged,» the Rosaviatsia statement says.
It is noted that due to the explosive eruption of the active Shiveluch volcano that began after the earthquake, the transit of airlines from friendly countries has shifted to Russian airspace for safety reasons.
Specialists from the Federal Air Transport Agency and the State ATM Corporation have stepped up monitoring of air transport operations in Kamchatka.
