Audi has unveiled a funny electric mod NSU Prinz 4L, made on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Neckarsulme factory (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) ).
Neckarsulm is the historic home of the German company NSU, founded in 1873 and absorbed in 1969 by Volkswagen. Today, the Neckarsulm plant produces the Audi A4, A5 Cabriolet, A6, A7, A8, R8 and e-tron GT, and the last original NSU model here was the revolutionary Ro 80 sedan with a rotary piston engine — its production ended in 1977 -m. The rear-engined NSU Prinz 4 small cars were produced in Neckarsulm from 1961 to 1973. Outside, the NSU Prinz 4 strongly resembles the “big-eared” ZAZ-966, but the Soviet car in this case was not a clone of the German one, but simply used design motifs common for that time, which we described in detail in a separate large article.

The NSU Prinz EP4 electric mod was developed by 12 young Audi trainees along with teachers, based on the NSU Prinz 4, released in 1971. The car was not running for a long time and was pretty rotten, but the Audi team restored and strengthened the body, and its appearance was stylized as a sports NSU Prinz 1000 with oval headlights. To increase rigidity, a part of the floor panel from the Audi A1 hatchback and a tubular roll cage are cut into the body, the brakes and chassis elements are also borrowed from the Audi A1, which greatly increased the track — it required large wheel arch extensions. The look of the restomod was developed with the support of Audi's in-house stylists, it is carefully designed, which greatly and for the better differs, for example, from Skoda's annual student projects.
The place of a 30-horsepower two-cylinder gasoline engine in the stern was taken by an electric motor with a capacity of 240 hp. The 19.2 kWh traction battery located in the front luggage compartment is borrowed from the Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro hybrid crossover. Air vents are cut into the front end and hood cover to cool the battery, and the rear cover can be locked open like a vintage racing car. A large fixed wing is installed above the rear window.
Photos of the interior of the NSU Prinz EP4 by Audi press service , unfortunately, did not publish, but only reported that everything was new there, including a modern single-board computer serving a multifunctional electronic instrument panel, and light Recaro Podium buckets on openwork frames. Many elements of the outer and inner fins are 3D printed.
The NSU Prinz EP4 is one of a kind with no serial production in mind, but we wouldn't be surprised if someone eventually picked up the idea for this project. a third party company (perhaps even backed by Audi), because the popularity of electric mods and restomods is now growing and you can make good money on them.
