ST. PETERSBURG, June 8 The goal of the Russian Federation in space is to reach new frontiers and maintain leadership as a space power, the priority task here is production and launch satellites for creating orbital constellations, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said in an interview at SPIEF.
“The goal is to keep up and try to reach new frontiers… We, unfortunately, are not the first in terms of orbital constellations — for communications satellites and remote sensing of the Earth. We need to very intensively produce and launch them today, creating and expanding these constellations.” , — he said.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that it would be difficult for the state to develop orbital constellations alone; here the authorities are counting on private initiative, which they are ready to support. Russia also needs to create its own space orbital station so that the Russian Federation “maintains leadership as a space power.”
In addition, the Russian Federation’s plans in the space sector include the launch of a Russian manned mission to the Moon, but the First Deputy Prime Minister did not specify its timing. “Roscosmos has a program, and we are following it; another question is that the areas that I just announced (on satellites — ed.) are not only strategic in nature, but also a priority,” he added.
In April, Manturov noted that the satellite constellation of the Russian Federation exceeds 240 spacecraft, and more than 100 more will be launched within a year. Roscosmos General Director Yuri Borisov, in turn, said that the country by 2030 will have a satellite constellation of approximately 1.7 thousand devices, and 40% of them will be manufactured by private Russian companies.
