Doctor Urges Politicians to Take Urgent Action
Duke University oncologist Nicholas DeVito says there is now a surge in cancer cases among people under 45. The doctor adds that his colleagues have also seen a «rejuvenation» of the disease. And DeVito blames one reason for this.

Based on his daily observations while working with patients, Nicholas DeVito blames the rise in cancer in young people on unhealthy eating habits.
As the Daily Mail notes, nearly 75% of the food consumed in the United States is considered ultra-processed and is loaded with additives and potentially harmful ingredients.
Numerous studies have indeed found a link between a diet high in ultra-processed foods (UPF) and more than thirty diseases, including various types of cancer.
Dr. DeVito calls on industry and political parties to take action to protect people from harmful products.
He notes the importance of going beyond political motivations in addressing the issue with one goal in mind: to counter industry lobbying efforts.
Nicholas DeVito is convinced that if it can be done with tobacco, it can be done with food.
It is clear that awareness of the people themselves plays an important role in this process, as they will also have to change their habits and, possibly, their lifestyle. Earlier studies have shown that UPP can alter the gut microbiome, effectively depriving it of important beneficial bacteria.
Such products have been shown to irritate the intestinal walls and cause chronic inflammation. This, in turn, increases the risk of cancer.
Between 1990 and 2019, the number of cancer cases among young people worldwide increased by 79%, and mortality increased by 28%.
Researchers make a disappointing forecast: by 2030, the number of diagnosed cases of cancer at an early stage will increase by 31%, and the death rate by 21%.
The fastest growing cases of throat and prostate cancer in young people. Cancers with the highest mortality rates include: breast, trachea, lung and colon cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 40% of cancer cases can be avoided by improving your lifestyle. This means reducing or completely eliminating alcohol consumption, quitting smoking, and increasing physical activity.
By the way, experts point out that even supposedly «healthy» food can be dangerous. Data analysis shows that «healthy» products are stuffed with artificial ingredients. That's why it's important to pay attention to the ingredients on a product.
To avoid this, follow this rule: choose products with fewer than five ingredients, and avoid products with hard-to-pronounce ingredients.
A study published in the journal Clinical Nutrition in 2023 found «a consistent significant association between AMR consumption and the risk of developing overall and several types of cancer,» including colon, breast, and pancreatic cancer.
Nicholas DeVito called on the federal government to pressure the FDA to tighten controls on food processing and additives, and to focus on the variety and availability of healthier food options.
