This is only for the China model. There, according to preliminary data, the novelty will be offered with two turbo engines to choose from.
In Europe, the next generation VW Passat is expected to be available exclusively as a station wagon, as unified as possible with the fresh “barn” Skoda Superb (such vehicles not yet shown). But in China, apparently, the sedan will remain, but will change its image: pictures of the transformed model were obtained by the Cheshi publication.
Recall that the current Chinese “four-door” of the B8 series is called Magotan, while the passenger car with the global name Passat is also present in China, but it has a completely different design. The fact is that cars are made by various joint ventures: FAW Volkswagen is responsible for the production of Magotan, while SAIC Volkswagen produces the Passat with the original look. By the way, earlier photo spies caught a test prototype in China, and before it was believed that the VW Magotan would mainly change inside, so local specialized media called the upcoming new things restyling. Now the Chinese are writing about the new generation of Magotan. Well, we note right away: it’s not at all a fact that the “old-world” next Passat station wagon will have the same design.
So, VW Magotan has found a completely new “face”: the headlights have practically merged with the grille, both the optics and the grille are both would be concave. Also, the model received a more aggressive bumper. There is no photo of the stern yet — it is possible that the lanterns were made in the form of a single die. Dimensions are also unknown. The length of the old sedan for China is 4866 mm, the wheelbase is 2871 mm.

The interior is decorated in the style of the just introduced Volkswagen ID.7 electric liftback (in the Celestial Empire it is ID.7 Vizzion). But if the “train” has a tiny instrument screen (the role of tidy is assigned to the projection display, it is already “in the base”), then in the Magotan cabin a rather large separate tablet was installed in front of the driver. There are no more analog clocks.

The Chinese believe that the fresh Volkswagen Magotan will be offered with a new petrol “turbo four” 1.5 (power has not yet been named), which will replace the 1.4 turbo engine (150 hp and 250 Nm). More expensive versions should retain the two-liter turbo engine (on the current sedan it produces 186 hp/320 Nm or 220 hp/350 Nm). The current sedan still has a hybrid version, and this version is likely to be in the new model.
In China, the premiere of the transformed VW Magotan is expected at the end of the year, but it will probably go on sale only in 2024.
