Ron DeSantis revised school textbooks in Florida to remove «political indoctrination», including references to socialism and the Black Lives Matter movement.
B In one example, a textbook for students aged 5 to 11 asked parents to talk to their children «about why some citizens choose to 'kneel' to protest police brutality and racism.»
Government State has removed this post as it was deemed «inappropriate for age».
Another textbook described the socialist economy as «good, even, and without unnecessary losses», even stating: «These societies can promote greater equality among people, while at the same time providing a fully functioning state-controlled economy.»
The Florida Department of Education (FDE) removed this section, citing concerns that it was «an inaccurate description of socialism.»
In Florida, publishers are required to provide textbooks to education officials before they are approved for distribution to schools. .
On Tuesday, the FDE announced that it has approved 66 social science textbooks for use in schools, 47 of which have been revised «to ensure that materials are error-free and compliant with Florida law.»
There are 35 more textbooks. books with pending issues not yet approved by the state.
Brian Griffin, spokesman for Mr. DeSantis, tweeted:
🧵The political manipulation of children through the K-12 public education system is a very real and widespread problem in this country.
Just take a look at some of these textbook examples featured this year by @EducationFL. All caught & all FIXED under @GovRonDeSantis' watch.

Manny Diaz Jr., Commissioner of Education for the State of Florida, said: “To maintain our exceptional standards, we must provide our students and faculty with the highest quality materials available—materials that focus on historical facts and are free from inaccuracies or ideological rhetoric. ”.
However, the move drew criticism from some. Adam Laatas, professor of education and history at Binghamton University in New York, said: «The announced changes to the new list of approved textbooks in Florida should be of concern not only to every Floridian, but to every American.»
“These changes were not made to correct inaccuracies or errors. Instead, they are designed to limit and control what Florida kids will learn.»
Other changes to school textbooks include the removal of the statement that there has never been a «true communist economy» and the question being asked to students: «What Social Justice Issues Are Included in the Hebrew Bible?»
One section describing the Black Lives Matter movement was completely removed because it was deemed part of the «undesirable topics.»
Mr. on DeSantis with woke up
Last year, Mr. DeSantis signed the Stop Woke (Wrongs to Our Kids) Act into law. and staff) A law prohibiting the teaching of critical racial theory in schools.
This included a ban on telling students that some races are morally superior to others, and that «a person, by virtue of their race, color, national origin, or sex, is is essentially a racist, sexist, or despot, consciously or unconsciously.”
