Actress and comedian Ilana Glaser stars in a new women's ad for an American beer brand. ;for women" advertising amid backlash from conservatives who insist there is nothing «controversial» about it; about «saying that women shouldn't be forced to wrestle in the mud»; sell beer.
The beer brand released an ad for Women's History Month in which comedian Ilana Glazer denounced Miller and other beer brands. in the past, using scantily clad women to sell their products.
The comedian highlighted some of the company's old posters and cardboard cutouts, saying, «It's time to brew beer.» it depends on women".
Glazer, who starred in the comedy show Broad City, explained that the beer brand is buying up old marketing materials to turn them into compost for female hop farmers. "Miller Lite is on a mission to clean up not only their shit, but the entire beer industry's s—," she said.
The ad was released in March without much fanfare, but has resurfaced following the furore of rival Bud Light's ad campaign with transgender TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
The company's stock tumbled days after the backlash against Mulvaney following a conservative boycott, with customers claiming the brand had lost touch with its audience.
Two of Bud Light's marketing managers were put on leave as the brand tried to make amends.
Inspired by their success, conservative activists have now turned their fire to Miller Lite, despite its ad being released before Bud Light& #39;Partnering with Mulvaney.
Conservative commentator Clay Travis was among those who drew parallels between the March advert for Miller Lite and Bud Light. “These companies are broke and have no idea who is actually consuming their products.” he said.
Nothing controversial
But a spokesman for Molson Coors, the parent company of Miller Lite, refused to back down, insisting that there was nothing controversial in its ad.
"The video was about two things: a poop worm and saying that that women shouldn't be forced to wrestle in the mud to sell beer.
"None of these things should be even remotely controversial, and we hope beer drinkers appreciate the humor (and absurdity) of this video taken back in March" Fox spokesman said.
Miller Lite increased its sales by using scantily clad models including Pamela Anderson and Sofia Vergara for advertisements throughout the 90s and early 2000s.
These included "Bikini Girls" series, as well as "Cat Fight" between Playboy models.
