Scottish start-up Munro Vehicles has unveiled the MK_1 electric pickup truck based on the SUV of the same name and is already accepting orders for it. Price starts at £49,995 excl. taxes.
The Munro MK_1 electric SUV debuted last year and garnered a lot of attention thanks to Ross Compton's brutal box-like design and a number of interesting technical features. The MK_1 design, by the way, has already become the subject of a lawsuit between Munro Vehicles and Bollinger Motors, but despite this unpleasant incident, Munro Vehicles already has so many customers that they have to line up. More than 200 orders were collected for the pickup even before the premiere. Another thing is that Munro Vehicles, in principle, is not yet going to become a major automaker. This year, Munro Vehicles will produce only 50 vehicles, next — 250, by 2027 the capacity of the company's own plant in the suburbs of Glasgow will grow to 2,500 vehicles a year.
Munro MK_1 is addressed to mining and construction enterprises, rescue services, military, farmers and just lovers of outdoor recreation, it has a large margin of safety (estimated resource — 50 years) and the possibility of endless modernization as natural wear and obsolescence of certain components .
The Munro MK_1 pickup, in fact, is no different from the original SUV, even the dimensions of both models are identical: length — 4590 mm, width — 1812 mm, height — 2010 mm, wheelbase — 3255 mm. Pickup truck load capacity — 1050 kg (a standard euro pallet is placed in the body), the permissible mass of the towed trailer is 3.5 tons. Ground clearance — 480 mm, entry angle — 84 degrees, exit angle — 51 degrees. The Munro MK_1 is based on a powerful steel frame of its own design, the body is made of aluminum. The pickup, like the SUV, is offered in three versions — Utility, Range and Performance, all of which are equipped with a single compact electric motor with axial magnetic flux, on the Utility and Range versions its maximum output is 220 kW (299 hp) and 600 Nm, on the Performance version — 280 kW (381 hp) and 700 Nm. The Utility and Range versions accelerate to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, the Performance version in 4.9 seconds, and top speed is limited to 129 km/h in all cases.
The electric motor of the Munro MK_1 is located in the bowels of the central tunnel and is docked directly to the 2-speed transfer case, and then the power is transmitted to all wheels through the classic all-wheel drive system with three differentials (blocking is available for everyone).
Suspension front and rear dependent, spring, designed for hard work off-road. The brakes on all wheels are non-ventilated discs — the developers abandoned the cooling holes, fearing they would become clogged with dirt. You don't have to worry about overheating the brakes, because the high regenerative power of the electric motor allows you to drive in one pedal mode, so traditional Munro MK_1 brakes are generally not needed at all.
The battery capacity for the Utility version is 61.2 kWh, for the Range and Performance versions it is 82.4 kWh, the power reserve on a single charge is highly dependent on operating conditions, for the Range and Performance versions it can reach 305 km. The maximum charging power for a battery with a capacity of 61.2 kWh is 70 kW, for a battery with a capacity of 82.4 kWh — 94 kW, in both cases it is possible to replenish the charge from 15 to 80% in 36 minutes.
The interiors of the Munro MK_1 pickup and SUV are identical: there are no modern passive safety systems, but there are many amenities, including climate control , heated front seats, a 270-watt audio system (6 speakers), a 9-inch multimedia screen, a rear-view camera, two USB ports for charging gadgets and two wireless charging shelves for smartphones. Hard-wearing upholstery/finishing can be washed with a hose. Pickup truck owners will especially benefit from two luggage compartments in the front fenders, where you can put medium-sized equipment. Munro's main market for pickups and SUVs is its native UK, but as production grows, the company plans to expand into mainland Europe and North America.
