Adrian Mardell, chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover, said his parent company Tata will build a battery factory in Europe Credit : News Scan < p>He said: “I don't believe this will affect where we create models. We have already announced where these models will actually be built.”
The firm's Solihull plant will produce electric versions of Jaguar and Land Rover models.
Tata asked for a comment. The Ministry of Business and Trade declined to comment.
The gigafactory talks coincide with Tata's demand for government assistance to decarburize its huge Port Talbot steel plant by switching it from a carbon-spewing blast furnace to electric arc. the plant uses green electricity.
Last year, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Group, told the Financial Times that the plant could close without £1.5bn of taxpayer support.
