BMW Touring Coupe based on Z4: an unusual “three-door” can be produced in a small edition

The show car of the Bavarian brand was presented as part of the Villa d'Este elegance competition, which took place last weekend in Italy.< /p>

BMW introduced the current generation Z4 (G29 series) in August 2018, and at the end of September last year, the roadster went through a planned restyling. Now the Bavarians decided to «play» with the body options of this car: as a result, an unusual concept appeared, which so far exists in a single copy: we are talking about the BMW Concept Touring Coupe.

The concept is made in the Shooting Brake format, it has a long and slightly sloping roof, as well as an almost vertical tailgate. In the media, by analogy with other cars with a similar silhouette, the BMW Touring Coupe has already been dubbed the “clown shoe”.

Visually, there are practically no changes in the front of the “three-door”. The only exception is the radiator grill, while its shape remains the same, but the pattern has changed: in the concept it is made of vertical elements in the form of elongated honeycombs. Despite the modified stern, the Touring Coupe's taillights were left the same as those of the roadster. It is worth noting that the height of the show car remained the same 1304 mm. The coupe received 20-inch wheels of the original design on the front axle and 21-inch wheels on the rear.

The “three-door”, like the serial original, has safety arcs behind the seats: their task is to protect riders in the event of a car overturning. The concept also has some of the new parts made of aluminum. One of the main features of the BMW Concept Touring Coupe is a large trunk, however, the company did not declassify its volume. The developers decided to use the same leather for finishing the cargo compartment, which is upholstered in the seats in the cabin. In addition, there is a full-fledged contour lighting in the trunk.

The interior of the concept coupe has almost no differences from the roadster: the same steering wheel, two-seat layout, the front panel is similarly designed, and the central tunnel looks the same, except for the missing niche for small things. The graphics of the infotainment system have also been slightly tweaked: the animation of the “three-door”, and not the “donor” roadster, is displayed in the menu. .jpg» />

It is known that under the hood of the BMW Touring Coupe concept there is a «regular» inline six-cylinder turbo engine with a volume of 3.0 liters, but the company did not provide other details about it. The BMW Z4 M40i roadster is equipped with the same engine, its return here is 340 hp. (European specification) and the maximum torque is 500Nm.

As reported by Motor1 .com, citing BMW chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, at the moment the company has no specific plans to launch the BMW Touring Coupe in a series. However, according to him, the company may consider the option of producing a small batch of such machines if interest from customers is detected. The speaker explained that the limited edition will probably have about 50 pieces.
