Pilots of the Russian motorsport development program SMP Racing, Formula 1 racers Vitaly Petrov and Sergey Sirotkin will take part in the second stage of the Russian Cup in endurance racing SMP RCRS Endurance, which will be held on May 27 at racetrack «Igora Drive» in the Leningrad region.
For 4 hours, famous athletes will pilot the unique domestic sports prototype BR03, which was designed specifically for participation in the national series, in shifts. During this time, they will have to overcome more than 600 kilometers, stopping at pit stops to refuel and change tires.
Vitaly Petrov, SMP Racing driver: “I am familiar with the format of endurance racing. The SMP Racing team took part in the FIA WEC World Championship, where we won prizes. Now, together with Sergey Sirotkin, we compete in the Russian Cup in endurance racing SMP RSKR Endurance on the BR03 sports prototype. This is a Russian development, which was created by engineers from BR Engineering. On the first test, I had questions about the car, but my colleagues and I did a lot of fine-tuning, and now it's a completely different car. It is very fast, handles well and will be understandable to any level of pilot.”

About 25 cars of different categories start at the same time in the race: from exotic Shortcuts, created on the nostalgic motives of the Lotus 7, to ultra-modern Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Toyota and Audi of the international categories GT3, GT4 and TCR.
Pilots of the SMP RSKR Endurance will fight both in the overall standings and within their classes — after all, the speed of cars is different. Every lap on the track will be intense overtaking, and pit stops and exits will keep the intrigue to the last meter of the distance throughout the four-hour race.
As in the first stage, regardless of class, all racing vehicles will be filled with high-tech G-Drive fuel from the Gazpromneft filling station network. Gasoline helps riders achieve performance improvement, as demonstrated by the results of the 2022 SMP RCRS G-Drive Series participants. To improve racing performance, the fuel is regularly tested under extreme conditions: G-Drive has repeatedly proved its effectiveness in circuit races, rally raids, drifting, as well as in endurance races in Russia and abroad.
To control the quality of fuel at each stage of the series, the vehicles of the participants are accompanied by a mobile laboratory that conducts regular checks at Gazprom Neft gas stations. With the help of such a mobile van with modern equipment, about 10 main parameters of gasoline and diesel can be analyzed in less than half an hour.
According to the head of the Russian motorsport development program SMP Racing Oleg Petrikov, since 2023 SMP Racing has been holding a series of endurance races SMP RCRS Endurance in the status of the Russian Cup.
“We have extensive experience in participating in world competitions of this format, and we use it together with the Russian Automobile Federation to develop motorsport in the country. SMP Racing is the only motorsport development program in Russia that pays great attention to popularizing this exciting sport,” Oleg Petrikov noted
He also stressed that given the isolation of Russian athletes from international competitions, including the ban on the participation of pilots in the world racing championships, it is necessary to pay more attention to the organization of domestic competitions.
“For 10 years we have been holding the championship and the Cup of Russia in SMP RSKG Touring. During this period, the number of participants doubled, in 2022 about 150 pilots competed in the season. New classes have appeared, including international ones — SMP TCR Russia and SMP GT4 Russia, in which the same cars are presented as in world-class competitions. Thanks to the participation of the division of BR Engineering, which develops racing technology, the world-class sports prototypes BR1 and BR01 are built. Now on the Russian tracks you can see the new prototype BR03. Our cooperation with domestic universities does not stop in order to exchange experience in the field of engineering competencies,” said the head of SMP Racing.
Also, Oleg Petrikov drew attention on the importance of motorsport.
“Our task is to develop motorsport in any conditions. This is not only a spectacle for fans, but also jobs for hundreds of people who prepare cars, participate in organizing events. In addition, in general, this is the development of technologies, and the promotion of domestic tourism, and support for the economy in the regions,” Oleg Petrikov is sure.
Endurance racing is one of the most famous motorsport disciplines in the world.
