Newcastle United will decide on their transfer budget before the weekend after reviewing their spending plans after Champions League qualification.

Despite euphoric scenes on the pitch following a goalless draw against Leicester City on Monday night, which confirmed the top four finish, there was no official party for the players and staff at St James' Park.

Instead, the players organized their own party, and the coaching staff shared a more relaxed moment of reflection in office at the stadium, and thoughts have already turned to the challenges ahead, both for manager Eddie Howe and the consortium of owners.

Meetings must take place within the next 48 hours to determine how much they can spend in accordance with Financial Fair Play rules. Decisions will also be made as to which players are their main targets, as well as fallback options for each area of need agreed upon.

Newcastle have not taken a single step for a player at this stage of the recruitment process, although there have been shortlisted.

This is largely due to uncertainty about how much money will be available to Howe and the rest of the recruiting team.

Some members want to invest heavily to give the first team a boost immediately to make sure they have the tools to be competitive in the Champions League. Others are more cautious and want the business model to remain flexible in terms of future transfer windows.

Newcastle did not expect to qualify for the Champions League so soon after being taken over by the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Investment Fund but are now determined to make the most of their position with additional revenue and new sponsorship deals. to be announced before the start of next season.

These differences in budget plans will be addressed in the coming days and a consensus will be reached so that deals can finally be struck.

Howe wants to sign a right centre-back, a left-back, two midfielders and an all-around forward who can play as a forward three.

Director of Football Dan Ashworth is also looking to sign young players to bolster his development team, although first-team-ready players will be prioritized in terms of allocation of funds.

Sources told Telegraph Sport. that Newcastle are likely to spend more in that window than they did under their Saudi Arabian owners, although the restrictions would still be in place and the payroll would be capped.

These wage caps are likely to be a major hurdle in Howe's desire to sign «elite players» with targets such as Declan Rice and Mason Mount, who are asking for far more than Newcastle seem willing to pay.

< The priority at the start of the window will be to sign players to improve the starting XI, but there is also an understanding of the need to add depth to the team given the additional games they will have to play in Europe next season.

Telegraph Sport can confirm that Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus is an interesting player, but at this stage it's nothing more.

Tentative bid for Leicester City's James Maddison is likely, but Newcastle want firm assurance that the player sincerely wants to move and will leave quickly if he feels they are being used to beat off offers from other clubs.

However, his Leicester teammate Youri Tielemans, who will be available for free, is not on the shopping list » Newcastle».

< p> Meanwhile, Newcastle have made little progress on a new deal for star midfielder Bruno Guimarares.

The Brazilian footballer has three years left on his contract and will definitely not be sold this summer, but an extension has yet to be agreed. Negotiations are likely to continue in the summer.
