But behind the scenes, Jason Tindall, nicknamed «Mad Dog» by fans, is much more than just an extroverted assistant manager at Newcastle United. , which enjoys great respect from both the staff and the players.
His connection to Howe is strong, having developed over the years as teammates and a very successful management partnership at Bournemouth and now the North East. They are the other man's yin to the yang.
Opposite in almost every way, with very contrasting personalities and outlooks on life, Tyndall brings fun, smiles and enjoyment to life on the training ground, as well as a keen coaching mind and hard work. ethics that match Howe's own grueling.
Howe, a shy, introverted and work-focused individual, is heavily dependent on his assistant. They are constantly exchanging ideas with each other. They disagree, quarrel and sometimes argue, but the bond between them is inextricable.
When Howe turned down a job offer from Celtic, one of the reasons he was so hesitant was because he was unable to bring along Tyndall, who succeeded him as Bournemouth manager in the summer of 2020. This is exactly what Howe believes is his confidant and longtime partner.
When Howe took the job at Newcastle, it was said that during his first public appearance in the director's box in Brighton, it was Tyndall who drove him to the game, and it was Tyndall who sat next to him and whispered in his ear the whole time.
But when you know how closely they work, how much time they spend together, and how much they depend on each other to excel in their jobs, it may come as a surprise that Howe and Tyndall are more colleagues than friends.

They never interacted regularly outside of football. They don't go out for lunch. They do not take holidays or weekends. Even when they were players, they moved in completely different social circles. They don't even really like each other.
Away from the firing range, they don't talk on the phone except in cases of emergency. For a partnership that works so well, there is rarely such a distance from the working environment.
'Jason is one of the guys everyone loves him'
Their relationship solidified when they got together when rookie coaches started working at Bournemouth in 2012. injury.
This made them hungry and determined as trainers. With no money and no transfer embargo in those early formative months, they did everything as a duo. They learned on the job together and it's no exaggeration to say that Howe wouldn't have made it to Bournemouth, Burnley and now Newcastle without his most trusted lieutenant.
As said One Telegraph Sport source: «Eddie has absolute trust in Jason and that's really important to him. He knows that he will never betray him, will not speak out of turn, will not leak anything, will not talk to anyone he should not talk to.
“Trust is so important to Eddie, he doesn't give it lightly and Jason has always been there for him. He lets Jason do what he does, knowing he's great at it. They bounce off each other. There are no secrets between them, especially when it comes to their work.

“They work in tandem, matching each other perfectly. Jason may face a certain image, he has an ego, like many people in football, but he knows who is in charge. Their relationship really defines their respect for each other.”
Tyndall tends to focus on defense and standards at Newcastle; this is his area of expertise. But he also plays a prominent role in recruiting decisions, and as forward Callum Wilson said earlier this month, «Jason is one of the guys, everyone loves him.»
He is the link between managers'. His office, which he shares with Howe, and the dressing room. Howe is affable, with a keen interest in the lives of all his players and staff, but can also be aloof.
He also has a steely edge and a spiky tongue when needed. He's definitely not «one of the guys».
Tyndall smooths out some of his rough edges by smoothing out conflicts and tensions. Howe listens to him and acts accordingly if something needs to be resolved.
«It's crazy how the Internet can create such things»
Earlier this year, a Twitter account called «Jason Tindall desperate to be in the spotlight» went viral showing clips of a Newcastle assistant coach greeting opposition managers in front of Howe. They showed others how he was arguing with the opposition benches and constantly complaining and gesturing to the fourth official.
Some of his antics infuriated people, including kicking the ball onto the field to prevent an opponent from taking a quick shot (twice ) and telling the 4th official that Fulham have 12 players on the pitch to stop play.
Listening in on the team on the touchline against Nottingham Forest, calling Nick Pope, who fell seconds later due to a mysterious injury, and Bruno Guimarares was off the pitch, also recovering.

«It's funny. I've spent the last half hour laughing with him about some of the stuff… and some of the stuff that's been sent to him,» Howe said last month, when his assistant's antics got so much attention on social media.
«It's crazy how the Internet and social networks can create such things. I think to understand these things… go back to where we started, it gives you a bit of context as to why he is in these situations.
“We started with no money, no strings attached, working with a group of players and it was just the two of us and we did everything together. You name it, we did it
“We went to see the opposition five hours away by car together, just us. And we never changed that approach throughout our journey together.
«We are both very active on the sidelines, and I encourage Jason to behave in this way.»
A lot of people are unhappy with Newcastle — they take it out on me»
Fittingly, Tindall himself has the final say, who has been called up to be in the last photo of the St James Park team this season following the 0-0 draw against Leicester City on Monday night, in response to the buzz on social media. He didn't have to be asked twice.
«I don't do anything that's different from what I've done for the last 15 years or so that we've been together,» Tindall said, speaking after the result that the Football League provided to the Champions. “In football [sic] there are a lot of haters who like to hate and a lot of envy. But to be honest with you, it's indicative of Newcastle.
«A lot of people probably don't like the fact that Newcastle are challenging the top tier of the Premier League and they don't like the fact that Newcastle are now in the Champions League. They probably feel they have to take it out on someone, and they take it out on me.
“But I'm skeptical, I have thick skin, and I laugh a lot. from what they say about me and send me… the Newcastle fans have shown me a lot of love.
Howe too, although they are still not friends.
