The official premiere of the cross-coupe will take place next month, on June 18th. It is expected that he will have to compete for buyers with DS 7.
Today, the Renault brand has only one coupe-shaped crossover in the global lineup — Arkana (by the way, this SUV differs from the model that was previously produced in the Russian Federation ). Now the French manufacturer is working on another cross-coupe that will expand the lineup: the novelty was officially announced in the middle of this month.
Teaser Renault Rafale
They decided to name the coupe crossover Renault Rafale. During the announcement, the company explained that this name is associated with the manufacturer's aviation past: this was the name of the C460 single-seat racing aircraft, which was introduced in 1934. Recall that earlier it was assumed that the brand for the sake of new items will revive the name Avantime or call it Austral Coupe.
Renault has so far only slightly revealed the appearance of the new cross-coupe: on previously published teasers, the Rafale is hidden behind a layer of camouflage. It is known that the appearance of the novelty will receive a number of differences from the “related” Austral. In addition to the obviously sloping roofline, it will have new-style LED headlights and sculpted fenders. But the interior, the SUV will probably share with Austral.
Renault Rafale render
The designer of the Spanish publication Motor.es decided to share his vision of what kind of exterior Renault Rafale will get. Judging by the render, the model will have a two-story head optics: daytime running lights are located in the form of strokes in the form of boomerangs (the updated Clio, which was introduced in April, has similar elements), and the main headlight units are located higher and have a horizontally elongated shape with double light elements resembling the English lowercase «t».

The artist also provided the future crossover with a large black radiator grille, in the center of which there is a newly designed logo in the form of a rhombus, and “corners” diverge from it to the sides. A large air intake with a pattern in the form of thin horizontal stripes is integrated into the lower part of the front bumper. The car on the render has a black body kit around the perimeter of the body, the same color of the side mirror housings and the roof, and the upper edge of the side glazing line is trimmed with chrome. It is assumed that the Rafale taillights will be different from the «relative».The Renault cross-coupe will be based on the CMF-C/D platform, on which Austral/Espace are also based. It is known that E-Tech hybrid units will be included in its lineup, but the details about them are still kept secret by the company. It can be assumed that the cross-coupe will borrow the “stuffing” from the same Astral, which in Europe is offered only with electrified systems. .jpg» />In the photo: the interior of the current Renault Austral crossover
Recall that the basis of the «mild hybrids» is a «turbo engine» with a volume of 1.2 liters, working in tandem with a 48-volt starter-generator, as well as a «turbo four» volume of 1.3 liters with a 12-volt «electronic weight». The first option has a return of 130 hp, only “mechanics” are offered in a pair. The second unit is offered in two power options: 140 hp. with a manual box and 160 hp. – with X-Tronic CVT. The top version has a full-fledged E-Tech hybrid system with a 1.2 turbo engine and a 1.7 kWh battery; its total power is 200 hp.
The previously disguised Renault Rafale prototype has already been caught in the lenses of photo spies during road tests: pictures were published in April by Kolesa.ru. The official premiere of the cross-coupe will take place on June 18.
