Victoria Amelina is the 13th person to die in a Russian missile attack on the Ria Lounge Restaurant as a result of a Russian missile attack on a pizza restaurant while she was waiting for the publication of her first English-language book about women investigating Russian war crimes.
37-year-old Victoria Amelina, one of the country's most promising young writers, has been meticulously documenting the devastation on the front lines and in cities hit by missiles and drones.
She was seriously wounded when Russia shelled one of the last remaining eateries in Kamatorsk during an evening lunch rush on June 27, and eventually succumbed to her injuries.
“Victoria herself was a victim of a war crime, it was reported in the PEN-Ukraine writers' association.
Doctors «did everything possible to save her life, but, unfortunately, the wound turned out to be fatal.»
Shortly after the start of the war, Ms. Amelina joined the human rights organization Truth Hounds and began documenting Russian crimes in Ukraine.
She died before the release of her first nonfiction book, In War and Justice Diary: Looking at Women Looking at War. The writer spoke to Ukrainian women about documenting war crimes throughout the conflict.

The writer regularly detailed her experiences during the war in her reports.
“At night, I looked at the fireballs in the sky from my balcony in Kiev and listened to the explosions,” she wrote a few days before the missile attack. in Kramatorsk.
She posted her photograph of a bombed-out house with the caption: “In this photo I am. I am a Ukrainian writer. I have portraits of great Ukrainian poets on my bag. I look like I should be photographing books, art, and my little son.
“But I document Russian war crimes and listen to the sounds of shelling, not poetry. Why?”
A war crimes researcher who was also a poet attended a literary festival in Kiev three days before the fatal missile attack.
Many cited her translated verse poem “The Sirens” as a reflection their feelings.
“Air raid across the country every time it goes to the execution of everyone, but aims only at one.”
Ms. Amelina is known for revealing the diary of Volodymyr Vakulenko, a Ukrainian children's writer , killed by the Russians.
She was born in Lvov, western Ukraine, and lived in Canada for some time. After ten years working in the field of computer technology, she began a full-time writing career. Her work has been nominated for national and international awards.
Around 20:00 local time, the pizzeria Ria Lounge, where Amelina had lunch with a delegation of Colombian journalists and writers, was reportedly full of people.
After the shelling, she was hospitalized in Dnipro. but died from her injuries on Saturday, PEN-Ukraine reported.
“In the last days of Victoria’s life, her closest people and friends were next to her,” the writers’ association added.
>At least 60 other people were injured in the attack, including an eight-month-old baby.
Rescuers saw rescuers carry men in military uniforms from the rubble, but most of the victims were civilians.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ms. Amelina has turned her attention to documenting alleged Russian war crimes in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine-controlled Kramatorsk has been a frequent target of Russian attacks: in April 2022 63 people died as a result of a strike on the city’s railway station.
Since the start of the offensive in February 2022, Russia has carried out frequent strikes on Ukrainian cities. She denies intentionally targeting civilians.
