English bowler Josh Tong is nearing a move to Nottinghamshire from Worcestershire next season.
Tong has had two Tests for England this season, both in Lord's, taking 10 wickets, including David Warner and Steve Smith twice each. As a fast test bowler, he is one of the most coveted out-of-contract players at the circuit this season.
Lancashire has also shown interest and was considered his signature favorite until recently. But after talks with both clubs, it is clear that Trent Bridge is Tonga's preferred destination and negotiations, including medical ones, are entering their final stages.
Nottinghamshire may see him as a long-term successor to Stuart Broad, who speaks openly about that he is in the twilight of his career and may retire after the Ashes this summer.
This season, the language is quickly gaining momentum, after two years due to injuries. Later this year, he could be signed by England, and his availability in Nottinghamshire is limited by international commitments, as has been the case with Broad throughout his career.
Language is one of the many local, foreign contract players who may leave Worcestershire at the end of the season. It looks like Pat Brown will be joining Derbyshire and Dillon Pennington has also been in talks with other clubs including Nottinghamshire. Jack Haynes, a young England Lions batsman, is also of interest.
Worcestershire seem to have come to terms with the departure of Tongue, a local lad who has come through their system and has been with the club for almost two decades, despite his entire 25 years.
Signing Brown will be a boost for Derbyshire, who look set to lose captain Leus du Pluy to Middlesex.
Tongue will become one of the most famous domestic signings of the season, along with with the move of Surrey to Dan Lawrence joining from Essex at the end of the season.
