Manchester United are poised to step up their efforts to secure Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and reunite him with Erik Ten Hag.
Ten Hag worked with Onana at Ajax and is his first choice to replace David De Gea as his first pick. , with his club seeking £51.5m for the 27-year-old.
No agreement has been reached between the clubs despite United's clear interest in the former Cameroon international. Initial discussions mean that a deal must be struck in order for Onana to move to the Premier League.
United are said to be valued at £38.5m with their initial valuation but are still heavily in the race for the goalkeeper who reached the Champions League semi-final with Ajax under Ten Haga. The professional league of Saudi Arabia is also showing interest.
Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed United's interest over the weekend and was open to an offer.
United released David De Gea last week but are also open to talks with him to stay at the club next season. The Spaniard, 32, agreed to new terms in May, but no deal has been signed and changes are expected to be made to the original agreement.
Ten Hag's plans will depend on a deal for Onana, who played in the Champions League final against Inter last month. The Dutch coach backed De Gea last season, pointing to his Golden Gloves clean sheet record last season.
But De Gea won't be guaranteed first place next season even if he agrees to new terms to stay.
Tom Heaton is Ten Hag's substitute goalkeeper and Dean Henderson is due to return from loan to Nottingham Forest before a decision is made on his future. Jack Butland, who came on loan in January, moved to the Rangers.
