Australia is furious at former England captain Sir Alastair Cooke who claimed their goalkeeper Alex Carey walked out of a Leeds barbershop without paying his £30 bill.
Cricket Australia vehemently rejected this claim as debatable. the Ashes series has taken the most absurd turn.
Cook later apologized to TMS, saying misidentification was at the root of the problem.
There was also a bit of noise around a rainy day, some haircut news that could be discussed on the radio the other day, Cook said. “A case of misidentification so I apologize to Alex Carey for the misidentification.”
Cook, the former England captain, stated on the BBC's Test Match Special that he chatted with his hairdresser while getting his haircut before the test .
“The barber says the Australians were at home,” Cooke said. “He didn't know his cricket very well, so he told me what they looked like.
“He said Marnus [Labuschagne], funny. Then David Warner cut his hair, Usman [Khawaja] cut his hair, and he says, “Oh, there's another one…”
“He says, “One of them, I think his name is Alex.” I asked, “Alex Carey, gatekeeper?”
He says, “He didn't pay.” It was one of those hairdressers who pays only for cash, and he promised him that he would do the transfer later that day.
“True story. He may have already paid.”

Barber Adam Mahmood of Doc Barnet's barbershop explained his version of events to the Sun.
< p>“They all came in just before we closed,” he said. “We cut their hair and had a great laugh.
“But we don't accept cards and Alex said he didn't have any cash with him.
“Well, there's a Tesco ATM just around the corner that he could run to. He could have gone back to the hotel and stayed there for no more than five minutes, but instead he said he would transfer him.
“Maybe he forgot. I give him cause for doubt, but if he is not paid by Monday, I will be unhappy.”
Notably, the Australian camp reacted angrily to the suggestion that Carey had not paid, stating that he had not even had a haircut in Leeds and that while the other player was at the barber shop, he paid. They said they would be back with a receipt later on Saturday to clear up any confusion.
Steve Smith, vice-captain, took to new social media platform Threads to say: “I can confirm that Alex Carey is not been getting a haircut since we were in London. Get your facts right The Sun.”

Cary received a rough reception from the Leeds crowd after stumping Johnny Bairstow at Lord's when the English batsman believed Cameron. The green must be ready and therefore the ball is dead. The West Terrace chimed loudly with the chant of “Take off your shoes if you hate Carey” as he went to battle on the first day.
