The Goodwood Festival of Speed has become a major arena for sports car debuts in recent years, but the British company Ineos Automotive brought here a “non-format” car for this event – a Grenadier Quartermaster frame pickup truck, designed for hard work and travel in extreme conditions.
Ineos Grenadier, known as the unofficial reincarnation of the classic, frame Land Rover Defender, was originally conceived in two body versions – a standard 5-door station wagon (aka a commercial van) and a pickup truck with a two-row cab. The Grenadier station wagon entered the market last spring, and today the Grenadier Quartermaster pickup debuted and went on sale. The production pickup truck is noticeably different from the prototype, the images of which were published three years ago: the rear doors are now cut from the bottom instead of straight, the perimeter of the connector between the cab and the body has changed, the design of the stern is completely new, the rear overhang has become slightly longer.
1/5 2/5 3/5 4/5 5/5The useful length of the cargo area is 1564 mm, the width is 1619 mm, that is, a standard Euro pallet is placed in the body, while the spare wheel is stored in the body and occupies part of its volume. The load capacity of the pickup truck is 760 kg for the diesel version and 835 kg for the gasoline version, the curb weight is 2740 kg and 2665 kg, respectively. The permissible weight of the towed trailer is 3.5 tons. The tailgate can withstand loads up to 225 kg, a 400 W socket is installed in the body. A host of accessories are available for the cab body and roof, including load tie downs, roll bar, canvas kung and expedition carrier.

The ground clearance of the pickup is the same as that of the “five-door” – 264 mm, the depth of the ford to be overcome is 800 mm, the entry angle is about 35.5 degrees, the exit angle is 22.6 degrees, the ramp angle is 26.2 degrees.< br />

In technical terms, the Grenadier Quartermaster is no different from the station wagon. The 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engines are supplied by BMW, the maximum output of the diesel is 249 hp. and 550 Nm, petrol – 286 hp and 450 Nm. Gearbox – only 8-speed hydromechanical “automatic” ZF. The diesel pickup picks up the first “hundred” in 9.8 seconds, the petrol pickup takes 8.8 seconds, the maximum speed in both cases is limited to 160 km/h.

Suspension – spring, dependent, with Carraro solid axles front and rear, disc brakes supplied by Brembo. The drive is only full, with a lockable center differential. Locks for cross-axle differentials are available as an option. A reduction gear (2.5) in the transfer case is standard.

The minimum price for the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster in the UK is £66,215. For comparison, let's say that the 5-door Grenadier in the commercial version now costs from £64,500, with a fully glazed cargo-passenger body – from £76,000.

Also, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ineos Automotive showed the second prototype of the Grenadier hydrogen SUV. The first, a 2021 model, was developed jointly with Hyundai, and the second was developed jointly with BMW and engineering firm AVL. There are no technical details about the power plant in the official press release. According to the British magazine Autocar, the hydrogen SUV is equipped with three electric motors (one on the front axle, two on the rear), their maximum combined torque is 8000 Nm! There are no serial prospects for the hydrogen version yet, so we will not dwell on it in detail.
