The American tuning studio Hennessey Performance has a lot of experience in squeezing all the juice out of Ford engines, but with regard to the seventh generation Ford Mustang, its specialists are just warming up: the first upgrade for the top – The Dark Horse version of the new sports car offers an increase in the output of the Coyote's 5.0-liter V8 from 507 to 862 hp.
The seventh generation Ford Mustang was introduced in September last year, but has not really entered the market yet, so there are still few proposals for finalizing this model from the tuners. In addition, the Mustang's new encrypted electronic architecture complicates engine tuning, but Ford gives it access to privileged studios, such as, for example, RTR Vehicles, but it just doesn't offer an upgrade for the engine yet, but for Hennessey Performance, power increase is the main bread. The return of the “sixth” Mustang specialists Hennessey brought to 1221 hp, and now switched to work with the new model.
The top-of-the-line stock road version of the new Mustang at the moment is the “dark horse” – Dark Horse, it is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8, which uses special crankshaft, camshafts and forged connecting rods, the maximum output of this engine is 507 hp. and 567 Nm. Gearbox – 6-speed “mechanics” or 10-speed hydromechanical “automatic”, all power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a self-locking differential. The Dark Horse version also features stiffer suspension than other versions, powerful Brembo brakes and advanced aerodynamic plumage.
Yesterday, the Hennessey studio announced the first project based on the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, it is called the Hennessey H850 Mustang Dark Horse. With the help of a supercharger, a new intake system, a new fuel pump, more efficient fuel injectors and a new control program, engine output is increased to 862 hp. and 881 Nm, which in combination with a manual gearbox promises a very dramatic driving experience, but you can, of course, choose a more comfortable version in terms of traction control on the “automatic”.
Hennessey's visual upgrade for the “dark horse” includes a new carbon fiber front splitter, new carbon fiber sills and rear wing, new forged wheels, decorative vinyl stickers on the body and Hennessey logos embroidered on the headrests.
The Hennessey H850 Mustang Dark Horse is already available for order, but the price is not indicated in the press release – it is only announced by direct contact . For reference, let's say that a stock Ford Mustang Dark Horse starts at $59,270 in the US. We believe that with an upgrade from Hennessey, the “dark horse” will cost at least $ 100,000. Deliveries of the Hennessey H850 Mustang Dark Horse to customers will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
