AvtoVAZ intends to resume production of Lada Largus in August

The head of the company said that the first batch will include 635 cars. In addition, there are still plans to release kits for building a fully electric version of the model.

The production of the station wagon and van Lada Largus (this is a converted Dacia Logan MCV of the first generation) started at the facilities of the Togliatti enterprise of AVTOVAZ in 2012. Restyling this model survived in 2021. Serial production of this car was suspended last spring. True, in the summer of 2022, Largus briefly returned to the assembly line: a batch of 1800 copies was produced, they were assembled from spare parts that were still in warehouses at that time.

Initially, it was assumed that the production of Lada Largus would be resumed before the end of last year, but in December this period was postponed, and immediately to the fall of 2023. Now new information has appeared: according to TASS with reference to the president of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, the production of Largus will be resumed in August. He did not name a specific date.

Maxim Sokolov also noted that, according to the plan, the first batch of cars that will roll off the assembly line next month will have 635 copies. According to the head of the company, today it is difficult to organize uninterrupted production of Lada Largus, as problems with components remain: he noted that more than a thousand components are supplied from abroad for the production of Largus (it is curious that, despite this, the degree of localization of the model is considered high).

It is known that as part of the release of the first batch of station wagons and vans, the company intends to produce kits for assembling a fully electric version of the model. Recall that she received her own name – e-Largus; at the end of last year, the prototype of the “green” Largus was at the stage of road and laboratory tests. Pilot production of “socket” cars should start at the end of 2023.

During the Russia-Africa summit, Maxim Sokolov also announced that the production of Lada Largus could be moved from Togliatti to the site in Izhevsk. “This is logical: if there is an e-Largus project, then these projects should be combined accordingly in order not to engage in unnecessary large-sized logistics,” the head of AVTOVAZ explained. It is worth noting that a specific decision has not yet been made, this possibility is still being considered.

As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the power reserve on one charge for an electric Largus is about 400 km (the calculation was carried out according to the outdated NEDC cycle, taking into account the weight of the driver and the load on board up to 100 kg). Lada e-Largus was equipped with a 150-horsepower electric motor located on the front axle. The maximum speed of the electric station wagon is 145 km/h. From zero to “hundreds”, such a Largus can accelerate in less than ten seconds. For comparison, conventional versions are equipped with petrol 90- and 106-horsepower engines; they need 13.5 – 14.0 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h.

AvtoVAZ's Togliatti plant has also launched production of Lada Granta family cars. It is expected that in the future it will be replaced by the Iskra line: as Maxim Sokolov previously stated, mass production of new cars will start at the end of next year, and sales will begin in 2025.
