The Mexican The government said Wednesday the body was found stranded in controversial floating barriers set up by Texas to stop migrants from entering the United States.

U.S. authorities have informed Mexico that «they found the body of a lifeless man stuck in the southern part of the buoys» on the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, the Mexican Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Cause. The date of death and the nationality of the victim are unknown, it added.

The Department expressed «concern about the impact of such public policies on the human rights and personal safety of migrants.»

In July, at the behest of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, buoys were placed in the river at a popular migrant border crossing, and large barbed wire fences were erected along the bank.

In response, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in federal court, alleging that the buoys, part of Texas' «Operation Lone Star» immigration policy, illegally obstructed river navigation and lacked federal clearance.

The barrier was installed in July and extends for about three football fields. It is designed to make it harder for migrants to get over or swim under the barrier.

Mr. Abbott said the measures are necessary to reduce migration to Texas from Mexico.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the barriers violated his country's sovereignty.

Hundreds of migrants die every year on the US-Mexico border, mostly while trying to cross the Rio Grande.
