Kilman has made over 100 appearances for Wolves since his £40,000 move from non-League Maidenhead United in August 2018.
He was confirmed by O'Neil as captain for this season at his press conference on Friday.
“I haven’t become vice-captain yet, but Max really important member of the group. The way he works, the way he trains and the way everyone talks about him — he's a really important contributor,» O'Neil said.
«The captaincy will be with Max and there are other people in the band who are more than capable of moving things forward and maintaining the standards we set. I am very pleased with the group's leadership.»
Wolves kick off the new season with a trip to Manchester United on Monday night.
