Ben Stokes is ready to come out of retirement for the World Championship in the ODI reversal

Ben Stokes returns to international white ball cricket. a sensational reversal and cancel his one-day international pension to help England defend at the World Cup in India this year, even if it means missing out on the Indian Premier League next season.

Stokes retired from ODI cricket in July last year, but England always hoped he could return for the World Cup in India this autumn. Stokes signaled to England that he was ready to change his mind and be selected for Jos Battler's team. The selectors will meet to select a team on Tuesday.

While concerns remain about a chronic injury to Stokes' left knee that may require surgery at some stage, Telegraph Sport understands that he will be willing to sit out next IPL season if he needs a break from his schedule to help him recover.Stokes has signed a lucrative £1.6m-a-year IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings, but he is believed to be willing to risk missing next season's competition to help England defend at the World Cup.

As test captain, Stokes is due to lead England on a five Test tour of India in the new year and was expected to rest for much of the rest of 2023 to prepare his body for the tour. Instead he will go to India or the World Cup.

Stokes is likely to bat in middle order for the English ODI team. Due to concerns about how much he might bowl, England are poised to select him as their batsman, reprising the role he played on stages during this summer's Ashes.

Stokes was man of the match when England won the 2019 World Cup after a wonderful Super Over against New Zealand. He also scored 52 victory points when England won last year's T20 World Cup in Melbourne against Pakistan.

All World Cup squads must be submitted to the International Cricket Council by 5 September – before England's next ODI , but teams can make changes to their roster until September 27th. England have four ODIs against New Zealand and three against Ireland in September before the deadline for making changes. The Stokes will likely be closely monitored in these games.

As first reported by Telegraph Sport, England are looking to take Jofra Archer to the World Cup. England are ready to take on a bowler, even if he is only fully prepared to play in their most important matches.

While each country is only allowed to select 15 players for their full World Cup squads, they are also allowed to bring three traveling reserve.
